Meet Earth 2.0 Character Cards
A playful and inclusive new companion for our journey, Earth 2.0 Character Cards are here!
In this post, I’m excited to introduce a new and special addition: Earth 2.0 Character Cards!
I’ve been working on them recently, and I hope they will bring a sense of fun, empathy, and a more inclusive spirit to our shared journey toward Earth 2.0.
Originally, I had planned to share the cards alongside a longer piece explaining the thoughts and goals behind them. But as the content started to grow, I decided it might be better to first simply show you the cards on their own.
These characters will accompany us in future posts, conversations, and — in the longer term — possibly even in a more game-like concept.
For now, though, they are here to help us imagine the building blocks of Earth 2.0 more vividly, realistically, and inclusively. That’s why if you notice anything missing, or have ideas for improvements or additions, I would truly love to hear your thoughts!
For example, when I write about what Earth 2.0's economy could look like, I plan to include not just my perspective, but also the views and attitudes of these characters — and, over time, perhaps even interviews or collaborative pieces with real people who embody the spirit of these characters.
Why like a card game? Why plant names?
Since we are Homo Ludens, playful beings who naturally love games and gamified experiences, I thought it wouldn’t hurt to add a touch of fantasy and playfulness to the mix.
I also wanted the characters to feel inclusive, reflecting the rich diversity that we’ll need to build a truly thriving new world.
At the same time, I’ve been thinking about something else: Talking about heavy, often overwhelming issues like sustainability can sometimes feel less appealing compared to the instant dopamine loops of Netflix, TikTok, or Instagram.
If we want to reach more people, and move sustainability beyond being a niche concern, maybe we need to rethink how we present it.
That's why I've been thinking about a simple motto lately, something I’d love to hear your thoughts on, and something I hope to explore more together in future posts:
"Make sustainability conversations fun and everywhere."
Their inspiration comes directly from nature and living systems.
Because maybe, just maybe, we need to rethink the future in the way nature would, embracing biomimicry not just for products or buildings, but as a whole system-building mindset.
For example, one of the characters is named Cyan, inspired by blue-green algae.
Cyan represents the "Re-imaginer."
Just as blue-green algae once reimagined Earth itself, transforming a thick, toxic atmosphere into a breathable world through the Great Oxidation Event, Cyan embodies the spirit of radical transformation we will need for Earth 2.0.
I’m excited to share the cards with you, and even more excited to see how they’ll evolve alongside our ideas for Earth 2.0.
Now, let’s meet the characters and character cards!
Oh, and if you’re curious which character you are, go ahead and take the quiz.
