This is a hopeful article! I lean this way too, but there are concerns not just of dystopia AI future, but also the immense energy and resources AI requires. How do you think the demand of these resources play a part in hurting rather than helping?

Absolutely, I completely agree. I’ll be publishing a blog post on this topic very soon, so I’m glad you brought it up! In the meantime, I can share a previous blog post I wrote, titled Addressing the AI Paradox, where I discussed this very issue:

Addressing the AI Paradox

It's important to address a key paradox: the energy consumption of AI systems. Current AI models require significant computational power, which could contradict Solarpunk's sustainability goals. However, this challenge presents an opportunity:

Green AI: Developing energy-efficient AI algorithms and hardware is becoming a priority. Quantum computing, neuromorphic chips, and other emerging technologies could dramatically reduce AI's energy footprint.

AI for Energy Efficiency: AI itself can be used to optimize the energy consumption of data centers and computational processes, potentially offsetting its own energy costs and more.

Balancing Act: The key is to use AI judiciously, deploying it where its benefits clearly outweigh its energy costs, and continually working to improve its efficiency.
